Bright Supernovae - 2008

Mike Richmond's Supernova list

For the year 2008, 272 supernovae have been reported (22 not via CBAT) (584 last year). The brightest supernova reported for the year so far is 2008ge at mag 12.2, followed by 2008bk at mag 12.5, 2008ax at mag 13.0, 2008fp at mag 13.5, and 2008Q at mag 13.5 .

For a short time 2008br and 2008co were both visible in IC 2522
For a short time 2007uy and 2008D were both visible in NGC 2770
2008in in M61 is a type II found young.
2008hw is the afterglow of Gamma ray burst GRB 081007
2008ex, a type II supernova, rebrightened after several months of fading.
Supernova 2008ft is an HII region
One of the discoverers of 2008ha is Caroline Moore. At age 14, possibly the youngest persion to find a supernova.
