There's a full Moon this night, too low in the east to observe at the start of the session. So it's Saturn only night till around 10PM, and the low full Moon as soon as we can catch a glimpse above the trees. Saturn will only be visible from about 9:30 till 10ish as it's getting low in the west, already too low for good views. Deep sky objects will be nearly invisible this till night due to bright moonlight. Next week will be a better choice to come!
Unless at least partly clear, we may not be open for observing. So:
Call the planetarium box office at 697-1945 after 7:30PM if in doubt.
The Strasenburgh Planetarium has a 12 1/2" telescope on the roof that our club members operate on clear Saturday nights. Free! Climb the 60 stairs to the roof deck via the entrance to the tower next to the rear door of the planetarium. Call the planetarium box office at 697-1945 after 7:30PM if you're in doubt as to if it will be open.
Click the "more info" link to go to the Museum's website, but please believe the hours and dates posted here as they are updated weekly and are accurate!
The planetarium is part of the Rochester Museum and Science Center, on East Avenue at Goodman Street in downtown Rochester.
The telescope is on the roof, up 60 stairs. Use the parking lot behind the planetarium and the stair case to the scope is to the right before entering the back door of the planetarium.
On windy or mostly cloudy nights, we may alternatively put a scope at ground level on the back sidewalk due to the conditions on the roof. Check back here each week for updated schedule expectations.
